Facilitator’s Impressions
In this session, participants engaged in a discussion about how individual universities can utilize resources provided by multilateral consortia. It built upon the ideas that participants had previous learned in Seminar II, “Role of Consortia in International Education Exchange”, and allowed for interactive small-group work.
Based on case studies of UMAP (University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific) and ISEP (International Student Exchange Programs), presenters described the ways in which multilateral student exchange models can advance the objectives of diversity and experiential learning. Shingo Ashizawa (Deputy Secretariat General of UMAP) talked about how UMAP has expanded over the last three decades in Asia and the Pacific, and Angie Lee of Hangyang University presented on how her university utilizes UMAP, ISEP and other consortia.
Each session participant had a chance to reflect their own experiences with those consortia. The session ended with presenters sharing additional resources to help participants identify benefits and issues regarding the use of consortia and university networks.
